Second Life Viewer 2.0

If you are using the new 2.0 viewer for Second Life, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Preferences.
  2. Click the Setup tab.
  3. Press the Reset button
  4. Close Second Life and then restart it.

Older (1.x) Viewers

The Clear Cache button in 1.x viewers does not clear your inventory cache, only your texture/model cache. As such, it is necessary to manually delete your cache folder. Start by closing Second Life. The location of your cache folder will vary depending on what operating system you are using.

Windows XP

In Windows XP, you want to delete the cache folder located at C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Application Data\Second Life

Substitute <your user name> with the name you use to sign in to Windows.

Windows Vista/Windows 7

In Windows Vista or Windows 7, the cache folder you need to delete is located in C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\Second Life

Substitute <your user name> with the name you use to sign in to Windows.

Linux viewers usually keep their cache folder where a Linux user would expect, in $HOME/.secondlife

Third-Party Viewers

Third-Party viewers (downloaded from someplace other than don't necessarily have to follow the same caching setup as the official viewers, but most do, so the instructions above should still work. If they do not seem to apply, then you will have to contact the maker of your viewer.
